Family
- Ted M. Turk was born in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A.
- His father was born
in New York City, New York, U.S.A.
- His paternal grandparents emigrated
to the United States from Europe in the latter part of the nineteenth
century.
- His mother and maternal grandparents were born in St. Louis, Missouri,
U.S.A.
- His maternal great grandparents emigrated from Europe to the United
States in the middle of the nineteenth century.
- Mr. Turk’s great uncle was a prominent St. Louis architect whose
firm designed the high-rise civil courts building and the original Anheuser-Busch
Brewery in St. Louis.
- Mr. Turk’s mother was a college librarian.
- His
daughter, Tara, has a bachelor of business administration from the University
of Texas and a Masters of Business Administration in finance from Vanderbilt
University. She is currently with the finance division of Hewlett-Packard
Corporation.
Experience
- During his internship Mr. Turk gained experience in commercial interiors,
shopping centers, and medical facilities.
- Mr. Turk served as an officer in the U. S. Army Corp of Engineers.
- He is a licensed architect in the state of Texas.
- Mr. Turk obtained a National Council of Architectural Boards certification
(NCARB). This facilitates licensing in the other states.
- In addition to Texas, Mr. Turk has held architectural licenses from the
states of Florida, Arizona, and Colorado.
- Although Texas is not subject to earthquakes, Mr. Turk is qualified to
practice architecture in those states which are earthquake prone.
- In 1967, Mr. Turk joined the firm of Koetter, Tharp, and Cowell where
he served as project architect on numerous school and church projects and
as project architect on the world renowned M. D. Anderson Cancer Center
Hospital nursing towers.
- Five years after joining KTC, Mr. Turk moved to the firm of Neuhaus and
Taylor where he served as project architect on shopping center and high-rise
office projects.
- Mr. Turk opened his own practice in 1974 which includes shopping centers,
office buildings, manufacturing plants, schools, bank buildings, medical
facilities, and multi-family housing.
